Michael is a 1994 graduate of Hazleton Area High School and a 1998 graduate of Bloomsburg University. While at Bloomsburg, he pursued an education in the business field and ultimately earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He then followed in his father’s footsteps and continued his education at Simmons Institute in Syracuse, New York where he earned an Associate Degree in Occupational Studies.

At Simmons, Michael graduated first in his class and received the Award of Excellence as the graduate who best exemplified the ideals of funeral service. He was also inducted into Mu Sigma Alpha, the national honors fraternity for mortuary science students and was nominated to receive the prestigious International Order of the Golden Rule Award of Excellence. Michael began his funeral director residency in 1999 under the guidance of his father, Ron, at Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home. Since passing his Pennsylvania State Board Exam and becoming a licensed funeral director in 2000, Michael has joined his father in a more active role at Krapf and Hughes.

He now serves as one of the firm’s funeral counselors, helping families through all aspects of funeral planning. He also continuously builds upon and refines his preparation and restorative arts skills by attending various board-certified seminars and lectures. Currently, Michael serves as one of the five Certified Crematory Operators under Krapf and Hughes and is an NFDA Certified Crematory Operator.

Since the firm's expansion in 2002, Michael has served as supervisor of the Butler Chapel of Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home, Inc. Additionally, he continues to work side by side with his father as a director for the firm’s Hazle Chapel. In 2008 Michael married the former Marisa Ervin of Drums and fathered a son, Drew, in 2010. Michael and his family reside in New Tropli. A lifelong Hazleton area resident, Ron was a 1969 graduate of Hazleton High School. He was gifted with a broad mechanical reasoning and keen tactile skills and desired to utilize these talents as part of his life's work. As a result, he decided to continue his education at Millersville State College where he studied Industrial Arts Education.

Not wanting to pursue a career in teaching, Ron took a position as a supervisor in a local steel fabrication shop, and later as a chief purchasing agent and production coordinator in a large manufacturing plant. Just prior to entering funeral service, he was self-employed in a wholesale distribution business.

After discovering that he would be able to use his natural mechanical and tactile abilities as well as his learned people skills in funeral service, he enrolled at Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY. There, in 1984, he graduated first in his class. He also received awards in both embalming and restorative arts, as well as being recognized as the student who best exemplified the ideals of funeral service and most likely to succeed in the profession. Since the firm's third expansion in 2014, Ron is also a Certified Crematory Operator for the crematory.

Ron is a member of Grace Baptist Church in Hazleton and has been married to the former Barbara Kish of Tresckow since 1973. He is the proud father of Michael Kutchmarick and Michele Andreuzzi. Ron also is the grandfather of 6; Samantha, Logan, Joshua, Layla, Lynzee and Drew. A licensed funeral director for over 25 years, he currently serves as supervisor of the Hazle Chapel. He has owned and operated Krapf & Hughes since 1985. David, our third licensed funeral director, is the newest member of the Krapf & Hughes team. He works closely with our entire family, assisting in all phases of our operation. He is also one of our five Certified Crematory Operators.

After serving 25 years in the Pennsylvania State Police, he retired honorably in 2018 as a Corporal supervising both the Troop N Forensic Services Unit and Hazleton Patrol Unit.

As a lifelong area resident, he resides in Drums with his wife (our office manager) Michele and their children. David holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from Bloomsburg University. He also holds a degree in Applied Mortuary Science from Northampton Community College.

Michele Andreuzzi, the Office Manager of Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home, is the daughter of Ron and Barbara Kutchmarick. She is a 1996 graduate of Hazleton Area High School.

After graduation, she attended Mansfield University and St. Joseph's Medical Center School of Radiology. She worked as an ultrasound and X-Ray technologist at St. Joseph's Medical Center, the former Hazleton General Hospital, and more recently at Hazleton Imaging.

After feeling the need to change her career path, she decided to get her feet wet in the family business. Presently, she is managing the offices at our Hazleton and Drums locations. In August of 2013, Michele married her soul mate, David Andreuzzi. Together, in their blended family, they never have a dull moment in their lives. Michele is happy to be working with her husband David, in bettering and carrying on the traditions of this truly family business.

Barbara Kutchmarick Vice President

Barbara Kutchmarick, or "Gaga" as she is known to her grandchildren, is Ronald Kutchmarick's wife of almost 50 years. Together they have two children Michael and Michele, who are both very active in the family business. Barb is also the grandmother of 6; Samantha, Logan, Joshua, Layla, Lynzee, and Drew.

Barbara is a graduate of West Hazleton High School and the Hazleton Area Vocational School of Nursing were she earned her LPN. Soon after, she worked in area hospitals including the former Hazleton General and St. Joseph's Hospitals. She also worked in numerous local nursing homes, home health care centers, private duty nursing and in the cosmetology department at Boscov's Laurel Mall store. Barbara assists professionally by working viewings, funerals, memorial services.

She and Ron are RV enthusiasts and enjoy getting out whenever they can. They take day trips to amusement parks with the grandchildren, weekend trips to state parks, and occasional extended trips to Myrtle Beach, Canada and Florida.

Barbara and Ron worship at Grace Baptist Church in Hazleton Heights. Barbara says "I am very blessed to have a wonderful husband and family with whom to share this rewarding business!"

At 21, Logan is the youngest member of our staff, but far more experienced than anyone might expect.

He is the son of our Office Manager, Michele Andreuzzi and has been working closely with his grandfather Ron, and his uncle Michael, on viewings and services since he was 8 years old.

He willingly and enthusiastically interacts with families who invariably comment on his maturity and helpfulness. He also regularly shares valuable insights and suggestions with fellow staff members as we all endeavor to provide services that include the highest level of compassion, organization, and professionalism.

While he has already met the requirements to be one of our five Certified Crematory Operators, he presently works under close supervision of other staff operators in providing cremation services and additionally, is well acquainted with many of our office procedures.

Logan serves as our firm's Technology Director, managing all aspects from our website to custom-made tribute videos. When families supply the funeral home with photos, Logan compiles these memories into a beautiful piece of modern memorabilia. Examples of these videos are available on recent obituaries. Logan also maintains the business's social media presence, adapting to new marketing techniques.

Logan uses his talents on the piano and organ to assists churches across the area.

He is currently a junior at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA pursuing a degree in Business Administration with aspirations to own his own businesses.

We are extremely proud of Logan and consider him to be a young man of limitless potential. He is truly a valuable member of our family team.

Samantha is our newest resident intern here at Krapf & Hughes. She is a 2018 graduate of Weatherly Area High School and is currently in her final semester at Northampton Community College in the pursuit of her mortuary science degree and state funeral service license.

 

She is the daughter of David Andreuzzi, another one of our directors and currently resides in Drums. She enjoys the outdoors and is a huge dog lover. We are proud of the progress Samantha has made so far and wish her the best in the remainder of her studies.
